Text

Living in the country there wasn't a lot of entertainment. I remember riding the bicycle to Castlewellan (10 miles) to see the wedding of Princess Elizabeth, as she then was, in the cinema. We went on a few holidays - Bangor and Portrush. Sometimes, I rode the bicycle to Newcastle. I would have gone to social evenings in several Church halls too. We had different games, but no real dancing. I would have gone to friends homes. We entertained ourselves as there was no television those days. We listened to some good programmes on the radio. I always read a lot. I had special girls papers and books. Looking back it doesn't seem a very interesting time, but I never remember a time when I was bored. I was always happy.
