Text
My Father wrote an account of his time in the first world war. He didn't talk much to us of his experiences, but he retired from Guinness brewery with chest ailments, which we attributed to gas inhalation from his time there. He died at 82 years of age.We moved on and no member of the family moved to England or elsewhere. All found work in Dublin. The Younger ones went to secondary school. There was no free education then. So for myself, we were more privileged. I didn't do my leaving but long after when I was married in the eighties, I went back to Colaiste Dhulaigh, Coolock, where I studied again and sat some subjects (with success).
