Aidan O'Kane came out to Zimbabwe to visit me. I collected him at Harare airport and we went to McCann's for our tea that evening and next day proceeded to the mission. Aidan was very impressed at how I knew my way round Harare. That was not difficult, as it was built on a grid. After a day or two at the mission we set off on our travels to Bulawayo, where we met up with Br. Dennis Turner an Irish Christian Brother and a wonderful Cork man, who found overnight accommodation for us in the Hilltop Hotel. We left next day for Victoria Falls and were amazed at such magnificent waterfalls and scenery. It has to be seen and experienced! We also treated ourselves to a sun-downer cruise on the Zambezi. That was unforgettable as well and I should have the photographs of that sun set taken at intervals as the sun fell lower in the sky. We then went to Masvingo and to The Great Zimbabwe ruins and on via Chimanimani, to Dangamvura, Mutare where Fr Noel McHenry from Torr, Cushendun in the Antrim Glens, gave us beds for the night and took us around to see Vumba and the Honde Valley in Nyanga. It was a holiday that I shall never forget for the weather as always in Zimbabwe was warm and sunny and the company was superb. It is always great to have Aidan's company. I remember he brought me beaded seat covers for the car and also a radio cassette for the truck. The music helped on long journeys. I was sad when I had to bid farewell to Aidan at the airport when he picked up the plane for Johannesburg where he went to visit his aunt, Sr. Mark. It was so wonderful to have someone from home to share good times with for the few days.
